Please Review My Book on Amazon and Goodreads
I have been so excited to see people sending me texts or Facebook messages announcing the arrival of their book. I can’t wait for you to discover the “secret” of Secrets of the Casa Rosada.
Though many people have just received their book and haven’t finished it yet, I want to put a small request out there: please, review my book when you’re done reading it!
Why is reviewing my book so important?
Through my research, I’ve learned that reviews can help keep an author’s book relevant and get more people to buy the book.
Some have also claimed that book reviews on Amazon and/or Goodreads can assist with:
Catching the attention of magazines, newspapers, and websites that might write an article about my book or include it in a listicle.
It can also increase my book ranking on Amazon. When this happens, Amazon may share my book with readers who are looking for something new to read through promotional means, marketing, and advertising. (I’ve heard that I need 25 REVIEWS for Amazon to notice my book!)
Bookstores may consider carrying my book in their stores based off my reviews.
Goodreads is the largest site for book readers and recommendations, and people who use the site trust those who rate and suggest books, thereby possibly boosting my sales.
While I know you all love and support me, I do want to make note that you should only write honest reviews. Amazon, especially, has strict policies about reviews and will take down reviews that don’t sound authentic.
I don’t want to encourage you to write something bad about my book just for the sake of sounding authentic, but if there is something you wished I’d done differently or something that bothered you, it’s okay to mention it. I’ve been a writer for a long time and I can guarantee that I’ve been on the receiving end of the worst criticisms possible.
Then again, if you just loved the book, wonderful!
If you’ve never written a review, here are some things you may want to mention:
Your favorite character and why.
Your favorite aspect of the book — The characters? The writing style? The climax? the setting?
Your least favorite aspect of the book.
The funniest, saddest, heart-wrenching, slowest, most boring aspect of the book.
How the book relates to your life or experiences — or how it didn’t and why you’re glad or disappointed by that.
If my book is similar to popular books, short stories, movies, TV shows, etc.
The Spanish language aspect — was it easy to understand or figure out?
Who would like my book? (Teens, adults, school teachers, women, men, Latinos, non-Latinos, etc.)
To review on Amazon, click here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Write a Customer Review.” Don’t forget to add an honest Star Rating! :)
As for Goodreads, click here. Underneath the book’s cover photo, you’ll see “Rate This Book.” You can also scroll down and find “Recommend This Book” which allows you to recommend the book to your friends.
Once again, thank you so much for purchasing my book! I hope you truly enjoy the book and I look forward to reading your reviews — whether they be good or bad. :)
