From Star Athlete to Starred Author

I was a creative child who enjoyed reading, writing, drawing, and designing clothes, but that creativity was often overshadowed by my love and abilities as an athlete.

Whether it was basketball, soccer, or softball, I shined on the field and eventually in high school, I became a star athlete in my community. With the publication of my novel Secrets of the Casa Rosada and the success of my freelance travel writing career, I think I surprised quite a few people with my creative side — and one in particular, a Wichita Falls sports journalist.

Tobin McDuff interviewed me for his segment on KFDX and we discussed my experience as a star athlete in Wichita Falls and how I worked my way to being a Starred Kirkus Review author.

It was an honor to sit down with Tobin and discuss my book and writing career. Fun fact: this interview came out 11 years after Tobin had interviewed me on his show about my artistic abilities when I was a sophmore in high school.

If you didn’t get the chance to see the interview, check it out below. You can see the version that was aired on TV and the uncut version. Enjoy!
